There’s the distinct sound of a crowd; people are laughing, calling out to one another, and simply talking. There’s the sound of mothers scolding their small children, and those children crying out in reply to the sharp smacks bestowed upon the top of their head. This is the pulse of the city of Elysia; the lifeblood. The common folk, and the upper-class.
People mix, and mingle here without shame. Wheel and deal over various products found beneath a wide span of tents lining the cobblestone streets. Folk have to yell out for the attention of the vendors, some are even daring enough to wave their money to gain such an attention. There’s bustling interactions, loud and intimate at the same time; deals being struck between peddler and buyer, and some being briskly declined with ruckus arguments.
Booths range from simplistic food carts; fish, red meats, varying proteins, among carts of fruits and vegetables; all the epitome of fresh, and seasonal, well kept from the heat to the best of the monger’s abilities. Some carts, however, have more convenient wares to offer, from simplistic skewers plunged through both fish, and vegetable, to the more complex concepts, as whole chickens roasted upon a skewer of it’s own; all made for the shoppers convenience, and all almost ludicrously overpriced.
The further one wanders towards the city slums, the more questionable the various merchant tents become. Most of these are just as shifty as they appear; some offering back-door abortions, and others offering black market items, most of which have no doubt been pilfered from the more wealthy folk of Elysia.
Likewise, as one treks towards the high end of town the scales become much more grand; offering temples, indoor shops, and cozy restaurants.
The temples erected long ago, by kings, queens, emperors, and empresses who would never live to see their life’s dream erected. These building stretch high, imposing, and towering over the remainder of Elysia. These enormous structures are both dull, and vibrant; centuries of wear is apparent upon the stone siding. Stained Glass windows - still magnificent after such years interrupt the seemingly endless grey siding of the incriminating building. Those windows depicting great acts of forgotten gods, and goddesses in rough, geometric patterns.
Amongst all this ruckus lies a small alcove of sorts; and open field. A park with simplistic wooden benches settled upon soft grass, shaded by looming maples. It’s almost impossibly quiet within this park, considering the commotion of the open market just yards away. These common grounds seem to be a respite from the bustle of common life.
This is a welcome area for all walks of life; offering a place to shop, worship, and relax. This area is the common ground of Elysia.
