HISTORY:[/blockquote]
Sophia was born in the wonderful sea side town of Thalasa. Her place of residence till she sought out her fortune was, Soliel Hill. Her father was a wealthy merchant and her mother owned a small but prosperous dress shop. She was the youngest child out of three siblings, her brother grew up, and though thought below his ranking, became a soldier. Her older sister, shamed the family further and became engaged and soon married a man who owned a sweet shop/bakery, which she happily helped him run. However, though quiet the social scandal Sophia's parents were content to see their children happy; and as soon as, Charlotte, Sophia's sister, made Sophia an aunt, she happily retired to her station as mistress of her household.
However, Sophia was different from the beginning. Born on the Ides of March, at six o'clock at night, she was a robust and healthy baby girl, much to the shock of her mother. She was quite loud and incredibly rambunctious, even as a toddler. When she was five her grandmother, who was an eccentric yet lovable old woman, took her to Elysium. Among the many places they visited was the museums and art galleries. It was a very informative trip and by the end of it, Sophie knew that is where she wanted to live. She spent most of her childhood like any normal child . Unlike her siblings, she was not content to sit around a be petted, and needless to say her nursemaid had a time with her. She was very much a tomboy, and many times she was taken to the doctor for one scratch or another.
Her parents, for the most part, bore all of this with a certain amount of tolerance. Her mother wasn't concerned with much, figuring that childhood playmates would grow into suitors. Her father looked at it with great amusement, and would often indulge Sophie; taking her down to the docks and the marina with him. She enjoyed the trips and would often help/hinder her father's work. When she was old enough she was sent to a preparatory and charm school. While the previous two children went off with hesitations and fits, Sophia was excited to see a different part of the world. She adapted to school very well, and enjoyed the freedom that it gave her. However, when she was sent home for summer break her first year; her grades reflected that she wasn't doing so well in charm school. Her parents where shocked, but figured as she grew older she would take the school more seriously.
When she was eleven years old she was home from school, on spring break, and she and her mother where caught in a quick rain shower. A few days later her mother came down with a raging fever and excruciating muscle pains. The doctor diagnosed her as having acute paralytic poliomyelitis. Sophie's mother held on for five days, and on the fifth day at six o'clock, her mother passed from this world. This crushed the family and their father was torn up, and never fully recovered. Sophie stayed with him as much as she could, and began to go to the local school. While secretly entertaining dreams of a life away from their town.
She got the chance to leave the town when she was seventeen. She graduated the top of her class and received a scholarship to a very prestigious college, in the capital. Sophie's sister knew that the girl wouldn't leave their father, so she offered to allow the man, who had gotten worse as the years went on, to come and live with her. Sophie, free of the familial restraints; she eagerly left her town and went to the capital, ready to begin to her life and find her place in the world.
She began to study in the field of science, and specifically dealing with bio-chemistry specifically in the field bacteriology. She encountered allot of problems in the field, men who thought her place would best be served at home in front of stove. She kept her head down and graduated with her bachelors and then went for her masters. She continued to work in the field of bacteriology, and began to work in a lab, dealing with both prejudices from both sides. When she got her masters, she went for her doctorate, and graduated at the age of twenty four. She began to work in her own lab, still dealing with the findings of others in the field. She hopes to one day find a cure for certain diseases. She keeps head head down most days and do the work that is assigned to her, in her own mind she; Sophie doesn't care as long as they don't cut her funding.
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE:
Sophie brushed the strands of dark hair back from her head. The messy bun which she had gathered most of her hair up in the night before was falling down around her, and so engrossed in her work was she that Sophie didn't bother to put it back up. It was summer time and she had the lab all to herself. The silence was resonating in the large room, and the thickness of the walls prevented the chattering of the birds to be unheard. She was clad in a modest dress of somber blue and the white lab coat. Most of the women Sophie knew would dress to impress when going out, however she mainly dressed for comfort nowadays.
After spending a few refreshing days at home in the comforting arms of her family, Sophie was now back at the lab. She had enjoyed the trip; if her family didn't approve of her choices they certainly didn't voice it. They tried to fake an interest and that was more than Sophie got either here at the lab or at the boarding house where she stayed at. After spending time at home and catching up with old friends; she was ready to get back to her life. The place she grew up would always be home, but as with most children who left for the great wide world; her home had become stifling and uncomfortable. While pleasant to return to for a few days anything longer and she began to cramp with the urge and longing to be back in her lab.
She looked into the magnifying glass and began to separate the strands of bacteria. She thought about the small room in the boarding house where she lived, the soft thick down comforter, and the warm glow of the oak furniture. It seemed like home to her and she was glad to have been back there. She'd taken a warm bath when she got home and had relaxed in the overstuffed chair down stairs content to read over the book she'd picked up from the railway station. It had been sheer heaven.
Now she was back in her lab, in all actuality it was her department's lab, but she felt it was more hers than any one. Sophie paused and chewed on the tip of the pen , her delicate brows furrowing in contemplation. She knew that it was almost time for her to go to lunch. She could feel the rumbling of her stomach underneath her corsets, but she decided it could wait a few moments longer. When she was done charting this data then she would go down to the cafeteria and grab some bagels and possibly if they had them, a couple of chocolate pastries. She was mad for the chocolate pastries.
Sophie placed her head back down to the magnifying scope, it was brand knew and absolutely wonderful, she was glad she had lobbied for it as long as she had. It certainly made things easier on her. She looked down and was concerned at the new strand of black that had come across the panel. It's cells where boxy and nearly opaque, and she wondered at this new development. As she was running over her minds the different tests she had put the slide through, she felt a tickle on the back of her neck and touched her hands to it., silky strands of her hair greeted her seeking fingers. She paused and then let out a soft amused little laugh, reaching underneath the scope she pulled out a strand of her hair, and laughed a little louder; shaking her head at the same time.
"Time for lunch. I've obviously gone without food for too long, if I'm mistaking hair for bacteria," She said the amusement still rich in her voice as she slid off the stool.
Lunch first and then maybe some time to read over the latest scholars journal, before going back into the lab, oh and a quick trip to the bathroom to pin her hair back in place as well.
