HISTORY: Velvet Maverick is the eldest born to Sandra and Roland Maverick in Tychite District. Her parents were forced to move there when her father’s job had been replaced by technology and he wasn’t making enough income. All of her life, her family had struggled ever since her birth. And because of the laws that had been placed when people did not have enough money, her father was forced to work in the dangerous mines where he was risking his life every single day just to feed his family. But since he was still not making enough money to put the food on the table eventually her mother was forced to get a job when Velvet was just reaching the age of nine. What did that leave her? Home alone with her baby brother. She was forced to grow up a little sooner then she would have liked too.[/blockquote]
By the time that Velvet had reached the age of eleven, her parents were still struggling and things were now just getting worst. Her father had been sent home from the mines sick from the fumes and dust that he breathed in every day. Her mother had to leave the job that she had to take care of him. That still left Velvet with taking care of her little brother, who was now three years old. But now that her father laid in bed sick as can be and her mother at home to be with him, she felt that it was her responsibility, as being the oldest of their children that it was her turn to take care of her family. Since she was so young though, she couldn’t get a job anywhere. So what did she turn too? Stealing. And at first, she wasn’t very good at it, and the more that she continued to steal food, money, clothes, anything that she could get her hands onto, she was becoming more skilled at the work.
Every time she came home though and her mother had asked where she had received this stuff, she didn’t know what to tell her and at first, Velvet had to tell her that she was getting them as gifts. And you know what? They believed it. Her mother wasn’t really listening anyway with the sound of the vicious coughing of her husband in the background. When Velvet reached the age of sixteen, she had decided that she was going to stop her pick-pocketing and stop stealing from stands in the streets. She was setting her goals high, and one night, she had entered Sericite District to see if she could find a home that she could break into.
And looking for a place wasn’t that difficult. Since it was in the middle of the night and there was no one around to tell her otherwise. She had found herself an opened window and claimed right through it. But when she had touched her foot onto the other side, she heard a growling from behind her, turned and saw a large and vicious looking dog. She stood there in fear as the dog bared it’s large teeth at her ready to lunge, when she had suddenly thought: “I wish this dog was asleep.” And just like that, the dog fell onto its side sleeping once again. She was confused, and lost about the situation just then and instead of continuing her mission; she slipped back through the window and returned home.
It wasn’t until later in her life that she had learned that her mother was a descendent of a distant royal line that had the ability to put people to sleep at a single thought. With this ability now at her disposal, Velvet could go into any area of the country, steal, and leave without ever having to be noticed. You can bet that she definitely did it this way. By the time that she had reached seventeen… her father had finally passed away from the vicious cough that he had been plagued by. Ever since that day one year ago, she had blamed the state for her father’s death and planned on bringing a new order to this country. An order where everything was fair for everyone…
ROLE PLAY SAMPLE: Another night, another job. Velvet’s routine was getting a little boring to her after doing it for so long, but her mother was now much too old for her to get a job and her brother was still too young to support them. Normally, when someone reached the age of eighteen, they would get up off of their butt and look for a job for themselves and support their family. It wasn’t as simple as someone would think. Velvet was a woman, and for some reason, getting a job was difficult for a woman of her age and gender. She should be married and having a baby, that’s what a lot of people thought in her neighborhood, but not Velvet. Not yet. She still had to take care of her mother and her brother, so you want to know what that meant? That meant that she had to continue stealing just to support them.
Thanks to this new found ability of hers, Velvet would enter into the Sericite District, enter a home, pick out everything that she could sell on the streets and leave without waking anyone up. Why? Because that was her ability, to put people to sleep at her own will and keep them asleep till the next morning. She tried to keep its use to a minimum, only using it on jobs or whenever she was going to get in trouble with the law, which has happened a few times and since she had always put someone to sleep before anything goes down. It was a good thing for her anyway, they officer would either not remember what had happened or didn’t get the chance to arrest her and take her in for questioning. She wasn’t going to let down her family like the state had done.
That was another thing, Velvet hated the country and it’s laws ever since her father had passed away. She knew that the mines were dangerous and bring nothing to her family but grief and pain. She was right, and now it was time for the state to pay for their loss. Legally, there was nothing that she could have done because her father had been sick for so long the state had felt like it wasn’t their responsibility for what had happened to him. Velvet thought otherwise, she was going to make them pay for what had happened to her father and her family. She believed that if they were going to go into this golden age that had been promised so many years ago, then there wouldn’t be so many families that were in debt, dying from disease because of the mines, and has no job. She was going to make sure that all of this was going to change.
She ran her hand through her hair as she stood in the kitchen with her sack of stolen belongings sitting at her side. Another house down, a few more on this street before she could go home, put her brother to bed, and take care of her mother who was now the one that has fallen sick. She came to realize though, that life wasn’t as simple as everyone wanted it to be.
