Thomasin knew of her husband. The entirety of Soleil hill knew of Cadence’s husband. The majority of them had attended the wedding after all. Except what Thomasin knew was completely different from what everyone else knew. Everyone saw Noah as some wealthy and dapper young man who was more than worthy of Cadence’s hand in marriage. He was sweet, and kind, and handsome. He was a smooth-talker. He was everything anyone could ever want in a man, and so much more.
He was rough, and he had nothing but harsh words for Cadence’s ears. Murmurings of how she was a useless woman, and wouldn’t be good for anything, except for an occasional fuck. He hated Cadence, or so it seemed. There had been times when he’d even gone as far as to raise his hand to Cadence. She was genuinely afraid of her husband, and she’d every right to be so.
“I met someone,” Cadence informs her friend suddenly. That pretty head of hers lolling to peer upon Thomasin’s pretty features, “It’s why we’re going to Dysprosium,” she continues onwards. Her slender fingers fold in upon themselves, before settling within her lap, “You’ll get to meet him,” and that was truly all Cadence had to say on the topic of her new man. Oh, don’t get her wrong. Cadence could probably talk for days upon days about Joscelin.
He was completely unlike her husband in many ways. Soft, kind, and giving. Gentle and a good lover to boot. But, oh, she wouldn’t mention to Thomasin that Joscelin had managed to garner access between the warm part of her thighs. No one needed to know that. At least not for the time being. Imagine the scandal which would bubble up in repercussion! As if the Sinclair’s weren’t already struggling. They by no means needed any more drama piled atop what troubles were already abundant.
Aside that single mention of another man in her life the train ride was full of what could be considered normalcy. The two old friends had taken the time to catch up. It was almost painfully obvious that Cadence had been more than absent for some time now. She was, deep down, a business woman. She had an estate to care for when her parents could not. That’s not to say the elder Sinclair’s were incapable of caring for their estate, but it was the simple fact that they’d simply come to accept Camille’s impact upon their portion of land. They were willing to roll over and let it all go, as if their very own family name weren’t worth salvaging. Cadence, on the other hand, simply would not stand for this. And unfortunately it was taking up the majority of her time.
The train ride was a long one, full of both casual conversation and an overwhelming amount of gossip - girl talk, if you will. It’s definitely a welcomed change from the norm.
“Thank you for coming with me, Thomasin, I promise you won’t regret it,” Cadence promises, gripping hold of Thomasin’s hand to tug her upward and toward the train’s exit so they may meet up with Marcus, no doubt. Joscelin had sent him to gather Cadence from the train station time and again beforehand.
